Back in 2020 Thameslink ordered 23,000 packets of milk bottle sweets to help promote the Cows About Cambridge trail, as our Official Travel Partner. The sweets were intended to be given away to customers at stations across Thameslink as a marketing promotion.
Lucy Dering, Partnership Marketing Manager, explains: “Unfortunately, the event was then postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19, leaving us with thousands of bags of milk bottle sweets unused.
“They sat in storage for a while but when it became clear that the event was going to be rescheduled after the sweets were due to expire in April 2021 we didn’t want them going to waste.”
The Partnerships Team, in collaboration with the CSR team, offered them out to local foodbanks to distribute - By the end of December 2020, all 23,000 packets of sweets had been given away to 13 foodbanks in Brighton, Seahaven, Eastbourne, Bedford, Hove, Croydon, Caterham, Ewell, Horsham, St Albans, and a variety of locations in London who will make much better use of them than having them sit in storage.
It was so good to hear that the sweets had not gone to waste and we hope they provided a smile to the recipients as they were used to top up vital food parcels during the pandemic. We would also like to thank Fabrik Communications for helping on this unusual but very worthwhile milk round!
